We're on the hunt for a Head Chef to fire up the kitchen at Mountain Goat Brewery – Newtown!

 

Ready to lead a passionate brigade in a buzzing brewpub setting? We're looking for a culinary leader who can drive performance, inspire the team, and serve up seriously good food that keeps the locals coming back for more.

 

As our Head Chef, you'll steer the kitchen to hit financial targets while dishing out consistent, high-quality fare that pairs perfectly with our legendary brews. You'll take charge of food safety, profitability, and innovation – all while fostering a strong, motivated team culture that champions development and retention.

 

This is a full-time role, working 38 hours per week, including weekend shifts as part of the regular roster and reasonable overtime when required

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

 

Ensure Quality and service

- Ensure consistent food quality and presentation standards, especially in your absence

- Ensure all menu items are available at any given time and staff adhere to par-levels

 

Menu research and development

- Demonstrate understanding of seasonality, current trends, market placement and competition

- Present ideas in line with brief, physical capabilities of the kitchen and staff skills

 

Shift management and supervision

- Ensure staff adhere to OH&S policies

- Ensure each shift is staffed appropriately and rosters are adjusted according to external factors

- Ensure kitchen is in a presentable state at any given time and staff adhere to uniform policies

- Ensure the maintenance of both high productivity and good staff morale

 

People Leadership

- Coach, counsel, train, reward and develop reporting staff

- Training and development of staff

- Performance manage staff when required strictly following HR policies

 

Labour cost management

- Write weekly rosters to budget without compromising service levels

 

Overheads Management & Compliance

 

Stock Control & Maintenance

 

 

About you

 

  • Solid experience as a head chef or sous chef ready for their next role
  • A knack for elevating the classics with fresh ideas and flavours
  • Experience leading and mentoring kitchen teams
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude and a collaborative leadership style
  • Formal culinary qualifications
  • A love of great food, a strong sense of team, and an eye for quality
